It features the Minangkabau house, Caklempong and Rebana - traditional musical instruments tied to local culture. The deer, as the state animal, and bunga lada, a decorative item used in traditional ceremonies, reflect the state’s cultural roots.Masak lemak cili api, a much-loved dish, represents Negeri Sembilan’s food culture, which is famously rich, creamy and very spicy. The wave and seashells highlight the state’s coastal charm and natural beauty. The fighter jet shown in the artwork is one of the aircrafts displayed at Muzium Tentera Darat, built on the site of Malaysia’s first army camp, established in 1933 - now the country’s first and largest army museum.At the centre, the Negeri Sembilan name is styled in the shape of the state map, tying all the elements together in one unified design.

At the heart of the artwork is the Rafflesia, the largest flower in Borneo, representing the uniqueness and natural beauty of Sabah. Surrounding this are depictions of people joyfully dancing and playing traditional musical instruments, such as the sompoton, which is an iconic instrument of the Kadazan Dusun ethnic group. These elements reflect the strong Sabahan spirit of community, where music, dance and celebration are central to every gathering, especially during festivals and special occasions. The drawing aims to capture the essence of Sabahan culture that is vibrant, proud and united through tradition.

What's the story behind your artwork?
The artwork incorporates the linangkit design, a traditional form of embroidery often found on Sabahan costumes, symbolizing the rich tapestry of cultural identity in the region. At the heart of the artwork is the Rafflesia, the largest flower in Borneo, representing the uniqueness and natural beauty of Sabah. Surrounding this are depictions of people joyfully dancing and playing traditional musical instruments, such as the sompoton, which is an iconic instrument of the Kadazan Dusun ethnic group. These elements reflect the strong Sabahan spirit of community, where music, dance and celebration are central to every gathering, especially during festivals and special occasions. The drawing aims to capture the essence of Sabahan culture that is vibrant, proud and united through tradition.

What's the story behind your artwork?
20 years ago, in this peaceful and harmonious land, a local song promoting Perlis played on the radio, capturing the heart of a young boy. Years later, he discovered a short film titled “Passport Express”, which beautifully showcased his home state. That 18-minute film sparked a dream.
Today, thanks to APOM, that little boy, now an graphic designer, finally gets to honour his roots. Inspired by the song and film, his artwork is a heartfelt tribute to Perlis, capturing childhood memories, unique local culture, and natural beauty. From the bustling streets of Pekan Kangar to the serene coastline of Kuala Perlis, every element tells a story.
This piece is more than just art, it’s a love letter to the state that shaped him. Thank you once again APOM, for the opportunity to represent my beloved state, Perlis.

What's the story behind your artwork?
This design is inspired by the concept of People's Rhythm in Kelantan, capturing the cultural flow and daily life of the local community. It reflects my parents' origin, one from the upstream and one from the downstream, symbolising the meeting of two different yet connected worlds. Traditional Kelantanese elements such as perahu kolek, kertok, and wau are featured as key visual motifs. These are arranged in a pattern inspired by the decorative side panels of the perahu kolek. The design merges movement, tradition and heritage into a personal expression that celebrates both cultural identity and family roots.

What's the story behind your artwork?
Puteri Gunung Banang
This illustration is inspired by the legend of Puteri Gunung Banang, a mystical princess said to live on a mountain in Batu Pahat, Johor. While no one’s really seen her, the story reflects old Malay belief, where the sea meant power, the land meant kings, and the mountain had its own princess. Back in the day, traders sailing through the Melaka Strait would hear tales about the mountain and stop by out of curiosity. It was seen as a magical place, even compared to paradise in old songs. Until today, Gunung Banang still holds that quiet air of mystery and wonder.

This artwork brings together key elements that represent the identity of Negeri Sembilan. It features the Minangkabau house, Caklempong and Rebana - traditional musical instruments tied to local culture. The deer, as the state animal, and bunga lada, a decorative item used in traditional ceremonies, reflect the state’s cultural roots.Masak lemak cili api, a much-loved dish, represents Negeri Sembilan’s food culture, which is famously rich, creamy and very spicy. The wave and seashells highlight the state’s coastal charm and natural beauty. The fighter jet shown in the artwork is one of the aircrafts displayed at Muzium Tentera Darat, built on the site of Malaysia’s first army camp, established in 1933 - now the country’s first and largest army museum.At the centre, the Negeri Sembilan name is styled in the shape of the state map, tying all the elements together in one unified design.
