Driven by curiosity, she enjoys exploring different areas of design and visual storytelling. Inspired by historical North Borneo postage stamps, this design brings together Sabah's natural and cultural heritage through the Rafflesia, orangutan and Mount Kinabalu, alongside Linangkit patterns and traditional gongs. Its coastal blue palette reflects Sabah's identity as the “Land Below the Wind”.

Noor Hayati, also known as Orkid Yati, is a Malaysian illustrator who has been creating visuals for books, educational materials, infographics, and promotional posters since 2015. With a strong belief that illustration is more than decoration, she approaches her work as a form of visual communication, aiming to make complex ideas clearer, more accessible, and more emotionally resonant. Her illustration combining a gentle, textured aesthetic with purposeful storytelling. While Orkid’s work often features elements of nature and childhood, her portfolio spans a wide range of themes and formats, from playful picture books to clean, professional editorial visuals. Through Garis Silang Studio, Orkid collaborates with clients on projects that require both visual clarity and emotional connection. Her goal is simple: to create illustrations that not only look beautiful, but also speak clearly. (Note: Associated with a Johor project proposal).

This design celebrates the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, an enduring symbol of Selangor's architectural and cultural identity. Bold geometric forms, diamond motifs inspired by its iconic dome, and the state's red and royal yellow create a contemporary interpretation of a familiar landmark.

Hello! I’m Fatin Aqilah, an illustrator who born and raised in Pahang! I specialise in picture book and commercial illustrations, creating artwork inspired by thoughful adventures, local culture and my life in general. My illustrations often feature childlike characters and cute animals, reflecting storytelling through my art. Over the years, this passion has also grown into a range of art products, which can be found in stationery stores across Malaysia. Hey there, im Thomas a.k.a Thomasupernova…..I’m a Malaysian illustrator and part-time educator. My illustration work is basically a way for me to process memories and the stuff I grew up with, like Britpop music, video games, comics, the toys and the cartoon characters that shaped my world view. Whether I’m working with ink on paper or going digital, I try to pack a bit of storytelling into the details. It’s not about anything too complex, it’s just about taking the pop culture and subcultures that I’ve always loved and using them to get some of my own thoughts and experiences down in visual form. ✌

Hi, I'm Syakirin Hadi, a graphic designer from Perlis with over seven years of experience in the creative industry. Somewhere between cups of teh ais, plates of nasi kandaq, and countless hours scrolling through Pinterest, I found my passion for turning ideas into visuals. My journey began in children's book publishing and now continues in product development, where I'm constantly exploring new ways to tell stories through design. Inspired by historical North Borneo postage stamps, this design brings together Sabah's natural and cultural heritage through the Rafflesia, orangutan and Mount Kinabalu, alongside Linangkit patterns and traditional gongs. Noor Hayati, also known as Orkid Yati, is a Malaysian illustrator who has been creating visuals for books, educational materials, infographics, and promotional posters since 2015. With a strong belief that illustration is more than decoration, she approaches her work as a form of visual communication, aiming to make complex ideas clearer, more accessible, and more emotionally resonant. Her illustration combining a gentle, textured aesthetic with purposeful storytelling. While Orkid’s work often features elements of nature and childhood, her portfolio spans a wide range of themes and formats, from playful picture books to clean, professional editorial visuals. Through Garis Silang Studio, Orkid collaborates with clients on projects that require both visual clarity and emotional connection. Her goal is simple: to create illustrations that not only look beautiful, but also speak clearly. (Note: Associated with a Johor project proposal).

Hi, I’m Natasha Nazan, an Abu Dhabi-based freelance graphic designer, illustrator, and the heart behind PAPERGASM.CO. Previously, I spent five years working as an interior designer in Singapore. While I love drawing soft, organic elements, my architectural background gently guides my work, helping me find balance and structure in every layout. Since starting PAPERGASM.CO, I’ve had the joy of turning meaningful stories into bright, colorful illustrations. This design celebrates the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, an enduring symbol of Selangor's architectural and cultural identity. Bold geometric forms, diamond motifs inspired by its iconic dome, and the state's red and royal yellow create a contemporary interpretation of a familiar landmark.

Hello! I’m Fatin Aqilah, an illustrator who born and raised in Pahang! I specialise in picture book and commercial illustrations, creating artwork inspired by thoughful adventures, local culture and my life in general. My illustrations often feature childlike characters and cute animals, reflecting storytelling through my art. Over the years, this passion has also grown into a range of art products, which can be found in stationery stores across Malaysia. Hi, I'm Syakirin Hadi, a graphic designer from Perlis with over seven years of experience in the creative industry. Somewhere between cups of teh ais, plates of nasi kandaq, and countless hours scrolling through Pinterest, I found my passion for turning ideas into visuals. My journey began in children's book publishing and now continues in product development, where I'm constantly exploring new ways to tell stories through design. I'm inspired by local culture, everyday moments, and the little details people often overlook. For me, good design is honest, meaningful, and always starts with curiosity.

About the Design
This design celebrates Angin Timur, the seasonal winds that signal the end of the rice harvest in Perlis. Golden paddy fields, local food, traditional games and everyday life capture the close relationship between the people, culture and landscape of the state.

#empatbelas is a yearly Merdeka-Malaysia Day collaboration project by APOM to celebrate the 14 states of Malaysia. Each local creative represents their home state, showcasing their state pride.
