Noor Hayati, also known as Orkid Yati, is a Malaysian illustrator who has been creating visuals for books, educational materials, infographics, and promotional posters since 2015. With a strong belief that illustration is more than decoration, she approaches her work as a form of visual communication, aiming to make complex ideas clearer, more accessible, and more emotionally resonant. Her illustration combining a gentle, textured aesthetic with purposeful storytelling. While Orkid’s work often features elements of nature and childhood, her portfolio spans a wide range of themes and formats, from playful picture books to clean, professional editorial visuals. Through Garis Silang Studio, Orkid collaborates with clients on projects that require both visual clarity and emotional connection. Her goal is simple: to create illustrations that not only look beautiful, but also speak clearly. (Note: Associated with a Johor project proposal).
Featured in Pos Malaysia's annual Malaysia Day stamp issue, #empatbelas presents The Best Of — a collection of designs showcasing what 14 alumni designers believe represents the very best of their home states, from the places and people to the culture, traditions and symbols worth sharing with the world.
About the Design
This design reflects Johor through symbols of architecture, craftsmanship and agriculture. Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim, the traditional gambus and the pineapple come together in a visual story of the state's heritage, landscape and living traditions.

#empatbelas is a yearly Merdeka-Malaysia Day collaboration project by APOM to celebrate the 14 states of Malaysia. Each local creative represents their home state, showcasing their state pride.

Her illustration combining a gentle, textured aesthetic with purposeful storytelling. While Orkid’s work often features elements of nature and childhood, her portfolio spans a wide range of themes and formats, from playful picture books to clean, professional editorial visuals. Through Garis Silang Studio, Orkid collaborates with clients on projects that require both visual clarity and emotional connection. Her goal is simple: to create illustrations that not only look beautiful, but also speak clearly. (Note: Associated with a Johor project proposal).

This design reflects Johor through symbols of architecture, craftsmanship and agriculture. Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim, the traditional gambus and the pineapple come together in a visual story of the state's heritage, landscape and living traditions.

Noor Hayati, also known as Orkid Yati, is a Malaysian illustrator who has been creating visuals for books, educational materials, infographics, and promotional posters since 2015. With a strong belief that illustration is more than decoration, she approaches her work as a form of visual communication, aiming to make complex ideas clearer, more accessible, and more emotionally resonant. Her illustration combining a gentle, textured aesthetic with purposeful storytelling. While Orkid’s work often features elements of nature and childhood, her portfolio spans a wide range of themes and formats, from playful picture books to clean, professional editorial visuals. Through Garis Silang Studio, Orkid collaborates with clients on projects that require both visual clarity and emotional connection. Her goal is simple: to create illustrations that not only look beautiful, but also speak clearly. (Note: Associated with a Johor project proposal).

About the Design
This design reflects Johor through symbols of architecture, craftsmanship and agriculture. Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim, the traditional gambus and the pineapple come together in a visual story of the state's heritage, landscape and living traditions.

Hey! I'm Husna Zaki, a freelance graphic designer and illustrator from Kedah. Currently, I'm working on branding, logos, advertising, social media content, posters, and pretty much anything design-related. I also do photo and short-form video coverage. Hey there, im Thomas a.k.a Thomasupernova…..I’m a Malaysian illustrator and part-time educator. My illustration work is basically a way for me to process memories and the stuff I grew up with, like Britpop music, video games, comics, the toys and the cartoon characters that shaped my world view. Whether I’m working with ink on paper or going digital, I try to pack a bit of storytelling into the details. Hey there, im Thomas a.k.a Thomasupernova…..I’m a Malaysian illustrator and part-time educator. My illustration work is basically a way for me to process memories and the stuff I grew up with, like Britpop music, video games, comics, the toys and the cartoon characters that shaped my world view. Whether I’m working with ink on paper or going digital, I try to pack a bit of storytelling into the details. It’s not about anything too complex, it’s just about taking the pop culture and subcultures that I’ve always loved and using them to get some of my own thoughts and experiences down in visual form. ✌

This stamp celebrates Kelantan's cultural heritage through Wayang Kulit. Siti Dewi and the Pohon Beringin take centre stage, framed by batik-inspired motifs that reflect the state's rich storytelling and textile traditions.

Hey there, im Thomas a.k.a Thomasupernova…..I’m a Malaysian illustrator and part-time educator. My illustration work is basically a way for me to process memories and the stuff I grew up with, like Britpop music, video games, comics, the toys and the cartoon characters that shaped my world view. Whether I’m working with ink on paper or going digital, I try to pack a bit of storytelling into the details. It’s not about anything too complex, it’s just about taking the pop culture and subcultures that I’ve always loved and using them to get some of my own thoughts and experiences down in visual form. ✌

This stamp celebrates Kelantan's cultural heritage through Wayang Kulit. Siti Dewi and the Pohon Beringin take centre stage, framed by batik-inspired motifs that reflect the state's rich storytelling and textile traditions.

Inspired by Melaka as a place shaped by generations of arrivals, this design reflects a layered history of kingdoms, colonial powers and migrants who came in search of new beginnings. Their stories, woven together over centuries, became the story of Melaka itself.

Paul, the creator behind Paulitical Art, is a practising anaesthesiologist whose passion for storytelling extends beyond medicine into art and writing. Inspired by his involvement in the creative community, he began exploring artistic pursuits that celebrate Malaysia’s rich history, culture, and everyday people. Through his work, Paul shines a light on the traders, hawkers, dreamers, and ordinary lives often overlooked in historical narratives. Drawing from personal observations, travel experiences, and a love of journaling, his illustrations blend nostalgia, heritage, and storytelling.

About the Design
Inspired by Melaka as a place shaped by generations of arrivals, this design reflects a layered history of kingdoms, colonial powers and migrants who came in search of new beginnings. Their stories, woven together over centuries, became the story of Melaka itself.
